The Poker Magazine - The World of Online Casinos

Poker Magazin was a monthly printed magazine published in Germany and based in Hamburg. Most recently, the website only said:

Poker Magazine News

In 8 issues in 2006/2007 we reported on the joys and sorrows of the poker scene from Vienna - now the editorial team is based in Hamburg and will report from here on the world of casinos and poker operators. Now it has reawakened and a new editorial team is working on a new concept in Hamburg to take a pioneering role again, especially on the German market. We had planned to appear again in February 2009. Unfortunately, nothing came of it because there was and is an unresolved legal situation regarding the use of advertising in poker magazines. The new concept of the Casino & Poker Magazine includes, among other things, that no advertising will be published that violates German gambling law. Advertising for sports betting and online poker portals is lucrative, but in our opinion illegal. However, since it is precisely such advertising that has been and is being published by competitors, a distortion of competition is created to our detriment. We are currently seeking legal clarification as to whether this practice is legal. As soon as there is a level playing field again in this matter, we will also reappear on the market in printed form. We will therefore take the liberty of contacting you again when the new Casino & Pokermagazin is published and to once again ask for your trust and a subscription.

In 2006, the website still said

The new PokerMagazine: It is still being mixed. Many are looking for it, many ask for it and realise: There is no German-language magazine http://www.pokerschule.tv for and about the booming poker market. A new poker magazine? Yes, does it exist? As I said, not yet. But we are working hard to bring the first poker magazine in German to the market soon. With news, dates, background reports, reports, tips and tricks from the top players, we want to bring our readers closer to the colourful world around the poker table, entertain you and ensure that your understanding of the game and your playing strength constantly grow. Until then, our team asks you for a little patience...

The poker rules were also presented

To start with - poker is not a game of chance. If it were, then the same people wouldn't always be playing in the big poker tournaments. That is why it is VERY important to read up on the subject. Please read carefully our poker strategy guides, over with some money in the poker rooms, and then read the poker strategies again to repeat them. Then you will be able to play poker well in no time and perhaps soon be one of the big players. If you are still a beginner, we have also written down the rules for Texas Hold'em for you. Texas Hold'em Poker is the most widespread poker variant. In order to master this poker game, we have listed the most important strategies for the individual cases.

There was also great news to report in 2006

(tsch) It was an experiment, one of many. But DSF had to offer its viewers something new. But what? Weightlifting in the Urals? Not a soul is interested. Synchronised swimming? Never. So why not poker? No one expected success. But gambling turned out to be a "real stroke of luck", even DSF boss Rainer Hüther has to admit with a smile. The ratings soared - far above the channel's average. The mainly male and affluent viewers between the ages of 14 and 49 seem to care not only about the time of day and night of the broadcast, but also whether the match shown is live or from the archives. This is just one reason why DSF is now upgrading and plans to broadcast around 800 hours of professional poker by 2008.

The poker boom comes from the net: More than 60 billion dollars were wagered on online tables last year. The operators of the sites earn from the commission and use it to finance TV broadcasts, among other things, which make poker even more popular. Another: a gambling industry worth billions is pushing into the market in the "poker development country" Germany, looking for potential cooperation partners and ready to invest a lot of money. A lot of money.

The boom is coming from the Internet, and when you hear the figures, you have to gulp: last year, around 60 billion dollars passed over the online poker tables of this world. About 200 sites, which, like eBay, live mainly from users' commissions, vie for their favour. Ultimately, however, eight global players divide the cake among themselves.

Even more impressive, however, are the forecasts for the near future: in the next three years, stakes are expected to rise again sharply - to around 215 billion dollars, they believe. To achieve these goals, however, Asia and old Europe would have to be infected with the poker virus, analysts admit. So far, card fever has been confined mainly to the USA, Great Britain and Scandinavia. But these markets are largely exhausted, more is not possible. That's why the online platforms are looking for new, wealthy victims ... players - primarily in rich Germany. And television is supposed to help.

DSF naively does not see any danger of addiction. Rather, it sees an opportunity to push its ratings with the gambling industry's windfall and to win new advertisers. Gone are the days when poker was mainly associated with aces hidden up one's sleeve and wild saloon shoot-outs. Poker has become sexy. Celebrities like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Robbie Williams have come out as gamblers. Professional players like Chris Moneymaker (that's the guy's real name), Doyle Brunson or Dave "The Devilfish" Ulliot are dazzling personalities who have already made millions. And last but not least, it's just damn exciting to watch them at work.

"Texas Hold'em" is the name of the easy-to-learn but difficult-to-master type of poker that has become established. Each player gets two cards in his hand, five more land one by one in the so-called flop, the middle of the table. Thanks to little glass windows, pulse meters and calculated winning probabilities, the audience knows at all times who has which hand, who remains completely cool with two aces (a damn good start) or just launches the bluff of his life.

Since March last year, DSF has been broadcasting World Championships and other important tournaments, but also games in which people gamble for cash in smoky backrooms with media attention. Up to 12.3 per cent of the male target group relevant to advertising wants to watch this. A large audience for the small channel.

The self-proclaimed men's channel hardly has to fear competition. After the first successes, the rights market was bought out without further ado. 800 hours of poker are to be broadcast until 2008, maybe more. The European Open, which will be broadcast daily at around 5.45 p.m. from Tuesday, 23 May, is likely to be particularly exciting. In addition, other high-class tournaments such as the Poker Million, the UK Open or the Global Player Challenge are planned. Sooner or later, the call-in lines are to give way. One could even imagine such a "counter-programme" to the World Cup, says Hüther. Only football and the "Sexy Sport Clips" will always have a fixed place.
